Desktop overview

CodexUse gives you a shared Chat/Agent surface for quick conversation or machine action, plus Projects for folder-based work, profiles for account switching, and settings around the whole workflow.

Last updated: 2026-04-19 Local-only data
Rule of thumb: use Chat for normal conversation, switch to Agent when you want CodexUse to inspect files, run commands, or make changes on the machine, and use Projects when the work belongs to a specific folder and should keep its own history.

Profiles

Connect and switch OpenAI accounts without re-auth.

Projects

Group sessions by folder, pin, and search history.

Settings

Models, approvals, MCP servers, skills, and AGENTS.md.

Chat & Agent

Chat and Agent share the same chat UI, thread list, composer, and model selection. Use Chat for everyday questions and brainstorming. Switch to Agent when you want CodexUse to act on the machine without turning the conversation into a folder-bound Project.

Profiles & switching

Profiles map to OpenAI accounts. Switch without re-auth and keep configs isolated.

Projects & sessions

Projects are folders. Use them when the thread should stay attached to a real repo or workspace root, with its own search, favorites, pinned state, and session history.

Settings & tooling

Manage models, approvals, MCP servers, skills, and AGENTS.md from Settings.
